About This Tool

What is a QR Code?

A QR (Quick Response) code is a 2D barcode that smartphones can scan instantly. They are used for URL sharing, contactless menus, payments, WiFi sharing, business cards, and product packaging.

Error Correction Levels

  • L (Low) – 7% – smallest code, can recover from minor damage
  • M (Medium) – 15% – best balance for most uses (default)
  • Q (Quartile) – 25% – good for printed materials with potential damage
  • H (High) – 30% – survives heavy damage; needed for codes with logos overlaid

Best Practices

  • Make sure the code is at least 2 cm by 2 cm when printed for reliable scanning
  • Keep good contrast – dark code on a light background
  • Test scanning before mass production
  • Use H-level error correction if you plan to add a logo in the center

Frequently Asked Questions

What can I encode in a QR code?
Anything: URLs, plain text, phone numbers (tel:), email addresses (mailto:), SMS (sms:), WiFi credentials, vCards, geographic coordinates, calendar events. Most modern phone cameras handle these formats automatically.
Is there a maximum length for the content?
Technically up to 4,296 characters at low error correction, but realistic limits are much lower. Long content makes the code denser and harder to scan from a distance. For URLs, use a URL shortener if your link is over 70 characters.
Why do I need high error correction for codes with logos?
Adding a logo covers part of the QR pattern. Higher error correction levels include more redundant data, so scanners can still read the code despite the missing area. H-level allows up to 30% of the code to be unreadable.
