About This Tool

Supported Formats

  • PNG – Lossless, supports transparency. Best for graphics, logos, screenshots.
  • JPG / JPEG – Lossy, no transparency. Best for photos.
  • WebP – Modern, supports both lossy and lossless. Smaller files.
  • BMP – Uncompressed. Largest file size.

Format Choice Cheatsheet

If you need transparency, use PNG or WebP. If file size matters most, use WebP. If you need maximum compatibility with old systems, use JPG. PNG to JPG conversion will lose any transparent regions.

Frequently Asked Questions

What happens to transparency when I convert PNG to JPG?
JPG does not support transparency. Transparent areas are filled with the background color you choose (default white). For images that need transparency, use PNG or WebP.
Is WebP supported everywhere?
All modern browsers (Chrome, Firefox, Safari, Edge) and most operating systems support WebP. Some older email clients and image-editing software still do not. For maximum compatibility use JPG/PNG; for the modern web, WebP is excellent.
Will converting from JPG to PNG improve quality?
No. JPG already discarded information when it was first saved. Converting to PNG locks in the existing quality but cannot recover lost detail. Always work from the highest-quality source available.
